The Hunger Games

The nation of Panem is a lot like the United States, well it is the United States in the future. They are very similar especially the media. In America we use the media to distract ourselves from our own lives and focus on others. In Panem the same thing happens the hunger games is away to get away from the citizens problems and focus on the tributes. People enjoy the games and pour money into them. The sponsors would rather give money to people they know are going to die in the games than to really make a difference in the districts who still have a chance.
I think the hunger games is very possible everyone loves a show the bigger the better. We already have survival based reality shows and we always want to make things better and bigger. America is interesting because it has a wide array of people some are very poor and others are rich and they act much like the people in the movie. We have the same basic structures to society its just that panem is more extreme.   
The distraction from the issues happens in real life too.  The actors lives are severely dramatized and people forget about the real issues being discussed in the movies. More people cared about Jenifer Laurence's hair cut than the striking similarities between the impoverished coal and farming families in the Hunger Games and real people. If some thing is not directly affecting us then we don't care about the issue. We care more about our own problems our own drama than others. Some people say ignorance is bliss. This is true it is easier to care about the happy light hearted things than face the terrible things that happen everyday in this world. If some thing is not directly affecting us then we don't care about the issue. We care more about our own problems our own drama than others. This shows that us as a society are cowards. It is not that we don't care about the issues it is that we are too afraid to do anything.
