The breakfast club is the classic story of five high schoolers trapped in detention and become friends. They put aside all of their differences to find things in common with each other. How beautiful.
But is this movie really about celebrating individuality or is it about conforming to society. Towards the end of the movie Allison gets a make over and only then Andy really shows that he likes her. This change shows her conforming to societies idea of pretty. Once she conforms she is looked at differently especially by the male characters. She is viewed better once she transforms into a "normal" person. Isn't this movie about not being normal it is contradicting the entire message of the film. How can you be different when being the same is celebrated. They put people like Claire and Andy on a pedistal and expect them to do everything right.
Even if they did become close friends they wouldn't talk to each other in school. They even said themselves if they saw each other in the hallway they would ignore each other. I think this happens in real life too. We are afraid to talk to people who are not in the same group that we are. Its hard to be individual and talk to people outside of our circles.

Even if we are individuals or conform or whatever we will still become our parents. There is no way to avoid it."'When you grow up, your heart dies.''So, who cares?''I care.'" We grow into what we are around so in a way we always conform. We grow up and join our little group of people and live our lives. This is how it is in real life is we r just copies of our parents. Never really changing.
